Sigh, I was going to rewrite the first year anniversary post (it should be down there on the trackbacks thing), but after realizing I have nothing to say, just made it a two-line derp. Derp derp. Ho ho ho, whereas the previous season’s whopping 45 shows required more than 6 hours to complete, I wrote this entire post in merely four hours in the early morning of today – partly by necessity, and partly because there are only 27 episode-by-episode (e.g. with around a dozen episodes) anime airing this summer, and even that happens to be a lot of shows for a summer season. Aren’t there supposed to be more anime during summer?
Anyways, added a new thing because I thought it would be cool – a “Potential” rating. I say potential only because I don’t know what other concise, one-word description to use in place of ‘Mushy’s Preliminary Rating on the Overall Quality of this Show’. Unlike other potentials which will probably stay around the 3-4/5 range, there will be equal amounts of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 in my potential ratings. SS stands for second (sequel?) season, which means that I haven’t watched the first/previous season(s), and so cannot say anything about how much I want to watch the show, ? means there’s not enough information for me to meaningfully give a mark, and -1/5 are shows with premises so ridiculous you know they’ll suck.
Maybe next time I should only post about things with more than 3/5.

O-New started out as a gaming design project between me and five other people. Needless ta say, what with my poor leadership and all that (cough cough not pointing ta more current drama in Ichigos Web Symphony or anything :V :V :V), that failed.
I originally posted a bit for this ta become a development blog, but after ta group disbanded… well, nothing happened.
I completely forgot about ta blog.
In January I unearthed it, but realized I lacked motivation ta constantly update it, thus another fall.
Finally, in February I revived it fully, and since then we have had at least one post a day, and two posts during ta summer months.
Thusly, more spam ta spam ya with :P
I’d summarize what happened between February and now, but I’ll do that during ta /next/ anniversary; after all, as I said, two birthdays = twice ta cake.
Finally, there’s probably one last question ya guys have.

The spy is no doubt Kiefer, or else she would not have told Ryner to run away if they’re going towards a noncombatant zone. When Ryner refuses to run away from her, she lights FLARE MAGICK and…
STUFF FREAKING HAPPENS.
The fifty ESTABUL MAGICK NIGHTS (or magic knights, iunno) arrive and KILL. EVERYONE. Besides Sion, Kiefer, and Ryner.

While Sion goes back to Roland and becomes a hero, Ryner is imprisoned and tortured. It is revealed that Kiefer’s sisters already died, and they’ve kept Kiefer in jail. Ryner is granted one request by the KING OF ROLAND (who isn’t Sion, /yet/), and requests that Kiefer be released from jail in his place. Thus he is imprisoned, but not before…
If her head can fit through the bars then couldn't Ryner just squeeze his way out
Anyways, Sion comes and lets him escape, but he declines; after all, he can nap all he want and the FOOD IS FREE. The episode ends on a weird note with Ryner commenting that he “has lots of time”.
In two sentences:
“The attack was bloody, violent and intense with lots of decapitations and dismembered remains.”
‘Unfortunately, we don’t really get to see most of the Academy’s students get chopped to pieces”
Yeah. This episode, IMO, did an interesting mix of good ol’ violence and a bunch of talking. Where usually, you’d try to balance it, this was basically “YAY TALK ABOUT STUFF” “Oh no, I got killed” “YAY TALK ABOUT STUFF IN JAIL”, reminiscent of the scherzo and trios of Beethoven. While talking about stuff there’s no action at all, and while being killed they hardly talk at all.
Though I do appreciate the fleshing out of the story, I still have no idea where the plot is going from here. Why couldn’t we just continue the story from after they killed the giant laz0r firing Sphinx-thing? This flashback doesn’t seem to have any main purpose at all except to show Ryner’s power, which they can obviously show in the present as well, and the connection between Ryner and Sion, which IMO would be better if revealed in the present. Sure, it’s not as dramatic and such, but by freeing that space you can use it to create more dramatic stuff, right?
The Alpha Stigma also seems like a stereotypical run-of-the-mill special ability – “Hey, if I use this uber power, I’ll endanger everyone around me so I never use it except during the climax of the story when everyone depends on it and then I’ll somehow manage to save everyone lololol how not obvious!”. Then again, there’s no other type of special ability – there’s only that and the severely underpowered ones.
Finally, the last thing that’s been nagging at me all along is why Kiefer’s not on the OP. She’s obviously a somewhat-important character to have survived the Magick Nights, so why is she not on it and random people who haven’t been introduced yet on it? I mean, she’s been on this show for more episodes than Shingen has been on for Durarara, yet he gets an OP sequence (that was still pretty stupid).
I’ve had low hopes for this show, but it seems to be pretty darned good so far. We’re an eighth of the way through the series and yet it’s already managed to do a lot of things.
Oh well, episode 4’s out already so I better watch that now. :/
